LIMINAL is an award winning Newcastle landscape design studio founded by landscape designer Tim McBurney. We provide high-end, innovative Landscape Design services across Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and the Hunter Region. At the LDI National Landscape Design Awards 2023, Liminal was recognised as Landscape Designer of the Year – Emerging Designer, receiving both Gold and Silver awards across multiple categories.

Liminal sees the integration of built and natural environments as crucial to our sense of place and our connection to our home. We seek to balance architecture and garden design with inner experiences of feeling and contemplation. Through thoughtful design, we tell the story of the site and the surrounding environment and enrich how we live within these spaces. Our approach is collaborative, working closely with architects, home owners and contractors to create harmonious and sustainable outdoor living spaces.

Beginning our journey in Melbourne, Liminal has grown northward, designing gardens for residential homes around Newcastle, Sydney and the Hunter Region, Byron Bay and the Gold Coast. Liminal seeks to re-engage people with their environment, to draw people in and to create spaces that reflect who they are and integrate their relationship to the world around them.
